By now, it’s common knowledge that we’re house hunting.

The property at 113 Havelock Street.

The property at 113 Havelock Street.

Ideally we want to live close to downtown (walking distance to the core), but unfortunately there aren’t a lot of properties fitting that criteria in our price range. So it’s a slow process.

Even more unfortunately, it means that, when there IS a cheaper property available, all the other poor people who want to live downtown jump on it and we get into a bidding war.

This weekend we went to an open house at a place in Old Ottawa East. We liked it enough to put in an offer – and we offered strong (a couple of thousand dollars above the asking price).

The house eventually sold – with no conditions – for $20K more than the asking price!

The basement...not sure why we didn't take a photo of the upstairs!

In truth, neither of us was particularly devastated. Yes, we liked the place, but it was not worth THAT kind of money, in our opinion.

So we keep looking.

If you get any hot tips, let us know!
