I've had the same song in my head since the series finale of Scrubs aired about a week ago. The book of Love – a song by the Magnetic Fields, but remade by Peter Gabriel – was the last song used in the show, and it was kind of a bitter-sweet TV moment that (I'll admit it) had me weeping.

Gabriel's version is leagues better than the original. It's more melancholy, with a wonderful string arrangement. And his plaintive singing style adds so much to it.

I've been a Gabriel fan for a long time, but haven't listened much to him lately. I'm happy to have had this reminder of how great he can be.

  1. Not a huge Peter Gabriel fan…although some of his stuff is worth the listen….Solsury Hill and Dont give up with Kate Bush for instance…..

  2. Katy Perry definitely makes catchy music. I hadn't heard this one, but I'm sure it will be all over the airwaves for the next few months.

When two of my friends married each other, he sang this song to her a capella, accompanied by his groomsmen, as she walked down the aisle. Talk about weeping!

  4. That's totally cool – were the groomsmen doing harmony or were were they all just singing melody together?

They were doing a sort of vocal modification of the string part that's in the Peter Gabriel version you have here.
