I recently ran across this 30-day blogger challenge, and it kind of struck me as a fun idea. Or at least, it struck me as a way to keep me occupied when I have nothing more remarkable to write.

BUT looking more closely at the post-a-day list, some of the items seem a bit pointless. There's an awful lot of "Whatever tickles your fancy" on the list, and that just seems frivolous and, frankly, like a bit of a cop-out.

On the other hand, Day 15 – "A fanfic" – seems a little TOO involved (assuming they're encouraging the blogger to write a piece of fan fiction).

Beyond that, I can't commit to writing one post per day, so I'm revising this challenge.

I'll decide which topics I care enough about to write a post – but I DO promise to try to put them up in a timely fashion. Don't get your hopes up though. Here's the list:

Day 01 — Your favorite song
Day 02 — Your favorite movie
Day 03 — Your favorite television program
Day 04 — Your favorite book
Day 05 — Your favorite quote
Day 06 — Whatever tickles your fancy
Day 07 — A photo that makes you happy
Day 08 — A photo that makes you angry/sad
Day 09 — A photo you took
Day 10 — A photo of you taken over ten years ago
Day 11 — A photo of you taken recently
Day 12 — Whatever tickles your fancy
Day 13 — A fictional book
Day 14 — A non-fictional book
Day 15 — A fanfic
Day 16 — A song that makes you cry (or nearly)
Day 17 — An art piece (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.)
Day 18 — Whatever tickles your fancy
Day 19 — A talent of yours
Day 20 — A hobby of yours
Day 21 — A recipe
Day 22 — A website
Day 23 — A YouTube video
Day 24 — Whatever tickles your fancy
Day 25 — Your day, in great detail
Day 26 — Your week, in great detail
Day 27 — This month, in great detail
Day 28 — This year, in great detail
Day 29 — Hopes, dreams and plans for the next 365 days
Day 30 — Whatever tickles your fancy

  1. Kind of like my daughters writing class. The teacher gave them a list of 60 ideas to use when they do their free journals 🙂

  2. I suppose they thought most bloggers like to write whatever they want, and that they had better give them a little freedom or else no one would do the challenge. Either that, or they just ran out of ideas.

  3. True. I think we used to enjoy the "question of the day or week" that Vox did because it gave all of use one topic to talk about. It was fun to see what different people answered to the same question.

  4. […] Okay, I guess our new blog is running smoothly enough that I can return to our regular features: back to this challenge thingie. […]

  5. […] know I said I wouldn’t bother with the “Whatever Tickles your fancy” entries for this 30-day blog challenge, but what the hell. I’m starting to get into this spirit of this thing. And it gives me a chance […]
