At the risk of giving the inane Katy Perry even more power over the North American populace than she already has, I have to admit my earworm right now is her Teenage Dream – in part because it was on Glee this week, and in part because Junkii really seems to like the song and has been playing it around the house.
I’ll admit it, but I’m not gonna feature it.
Instead, let me feature an artist that I think deserves a lot more attention on this side of the Atlantic than he’s getting: Plan B. Plan B’s album – the Defamation of Strickland Banks has a great sound to it – kind of motown/soul, but updated with a hiphop/rap twist. One of the first releases off the album – She Said – is a great example. But it’s their current release – The Recluse – that’s got me in it’s sway. Some great string arrangements in this – something a bit different.
Not the bland, same-old-same-old that is Katy Perry.
(Give it a few seconds. The song doesn’t start until the 0:45 second mark.)
