My hastily assembled zombie turned out not too bad, but I've seen better. Junkii's "Charlie Chaplin" was a crowd pleaser though.

We thought that pulling the plug on our annual wig-stravaganza was the right thing to do this year. And looking at it in hindsight, we probably did need a break from hosting, but it wasn’t until Halloween Saturday that we realized just how much we would miss all the commotion.

That’s not to say we didn’t have fun on Saturday. Our friends S&K valiantly stepped up at the last minute and threw a party of their own. Had it not been for them, we would have had nowhere to wear our hastily assembled costumes. Instead, we got to hang out with some of our closest friends and eat lots of tasty Halloween treats.

But as much fun as that was, it’s just not the same as when it’s OUR party.

When you host, you get to invite everyone in your address book. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see all the people you love gathered together under one roof. In some cases, wig party has been the one time a year we get to see some of those people – and not having a party this year means we missed that opportunity; at least until we find another fun occasion to throw a party.

Yes, throwing our big wig shindig was always stressful and expensive, but once the organizing is done and the booze starts flowing, it was always a ton of fun. It was heart-warming to see friends from completely different social circles comingling and getting to know one another.

So let this serve as notice for next year. Barring unforeseen circumstances, the wig party will be back, and with a vengeance!
